An 81-year-old man was allegedly attacked in New Jersey by someone who confronted him for wearing one of President Trump‘s “Make America Great Again” hats.
Somerset County prosecutors said that the man was assaulted at a supermarket after being confronted by the alleged assailant over the hat, according to a local NBC affiliate.
The victim had minor injuries and refused medical treatment, the outlet reported, citing local prosecutors.
The cap flashing Trump’s signature slogan has fueled other altercations in recent years.
A woman in Massachusetts was charged earlier this month with disorderly conduct after confronting a man in a Mexican restaurant and forcefully taking a “MAGA” hat off his head.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said Tuesday that the woman, Rosiane Santos, was in the U.S. illegally and that she would appear before an immigration judge for removal proceedings.
A man was also arrested in San Antonio in July 2018 after video surfaced showing him harassing a teenager who was wearing the hat.
